Job summary

NHS Blood and Transplant is seeking a proactive SHTO to support scientific staff in daily laboratory operations in Filton. You will prepare samples for testing or storage, perform analytical tests, operate analysers, and carry out basic equipment maintenance.

You will also assist in training junior staff and handle clerical tasks such as consumable ordering, with a 37.5-hour week on a 7:00–18:00 shift system.

Qualifications

• Assist in preparation, testing and storage of blood samples.
• Operate laboratory analysers and perform basic equipment maintenance.
• Assist in training and development of junior staff.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, test, and store samples from patients with support of the team.
• Operate analysers and carry out basic maintenance on equipment.
• Support and train new and less experienced staff.
• Monitor stock, consumables and reagents.
• Handle blood samples and a range of laboratory equipment.
• Work across a 7:00–18:00 shift pattern, 37.5 hours per week.
