Job summary

MECCA Brands in the United Kingdom is seeking a Senior Mobile Developer to design, build, and maintain high-performance mobile applications using React Native, with iOS Swift and Android Kotlin expertise. You will collaborate with product managers, designers, and QA to deliver scalable, secure experiences, implement CI/CD, and mentor peers while continuously improving performance and code quality.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of mobile engineering experience with production React Native.
• Experience with Expo including Expo Modules, config plugins and native app configuration.
• Strong knowledge of iOS (Swift) and Android (Kotlin) native development.
• Experience building and maintaining shared component libraries or design systems.
• Strong mobile UI engineering skills including responsive layouts, animations, accessibility, and performance optimization.
• Experience with TanStackQuery for server-state management.
• Experience with Zustand or similar client-state libraries.
• Automation testing for mobile apps using Detox, Maestro, Appium, Jest, or RN Testing Library.
• CI/CD, Git workflows, feature flags, build automation, and continuous delivery.
• Proven experience shipping apps to App Store and Google Play with release management.
• Strong quality mindset: secure, resilient, observable, maintainable apps.
• Clear communication and mentoring abilities.
• Fluent with AI-assisted engineering tools for accelerated development.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain high-performance mobile applications using React Native, with strong knowledge of iOS (Swift) and Android (Kotlin) for bridging and optimisation.
• Ensure applications meet scalability, performance, accessibility, and security best practices.
• Collaborate with Product Managers, UX/UI Designers, and QA Engineers.
• Design and implement integrations with backend systems and cloud services, leveraging REST APIs.
• Apply a test-first mindset, building automated tests (unit, integration, E2E).
• Continuously enhance the CI/CD pipeline for fast, reliable releases.
• Optimize app performance through profiling, debugging, and monitoring tools.
• Implement mobile security measures (OAuth, JWT, biometric authentication) and privacy standards.
• Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, and retrospectives.
• Contribute to a culture of learning and excellence, mentoring peers.
• Stay current with mobile technology trends.

As a Senior Mobile Developer, you will:

• Design, build, andmaintain high-performance mobile applications using React Native, with strong knowledge of iOS (Swift) and Android (Kotlin) for bridging andoptimisation.

• Design and implement seamless integrations with backend systems and cloud services,leveragingREST APIs to deliver reliable, scalable, and performant mobile experiences

• Apply a test-first mindset , building automated tests (unit, integration, E2E)

• Continuously enhance the CI/CD pipeline , enabling fast, reliable, and low-risk releases.

• Optimiseapp performance through profiling, debugging, and monitoring tools.** **

We’relooking for a curious, growth-minded engineer with:

• 5+ years of mobile engineering experience , with strong production experience in React Native.

• Production experience with Expo , including Expo Modules, config plugins , and native app configuration.

• Strong understanding of iOS and Android native development, including Swift, Kotlin, platform APIs, app permissions, push notifications, deep linking, and release workflows.

• Experience building andmaintainingsharedcomponentlibraries or design systems for mobile applications.

• Strong knowledge of mobile UI engineering, including responsive layouts , animations , accessibility , and p** erformance optimisation**.

• Practical experience with TanStackQuery for server-state management, caching, invalidation,andoptimistic updates.

• Experience with Zustand or similar client-state libraries, with a clear understanding of when to separate client state from server state.

• Experience writing automated tests for mobile applications using tools such as Detox, Maestro, Appium, Jest, or React Native Testing Library.

• Strong working knowledge of CI/CD, Git workflows, feature flags, build automation, and continuous delivery for mobile apps.

• Proven experience shipping apps to the App Store and Google Play , including release management, store compliance, staged rollouts, monitoring, crash reporting, and post-release support.

• A strong quality mindset , with experience building secure , resilient , observable , and maintainable mobile applications.

• Clear communication skills, strong technical judgement, and the ability to mentor other engineers.

• Practical fluency with AI-assisted engineering tools, including using AI to accelerate development, testing, debugging,documentation, code review, and technical discovery whilemaintainingstrong engineering standards.

Nice to have

• Experience working with .NET or C#-based backends andweb technologies.

• Exposure to AI/ML concepts or libraries, or interest in experimenting with AI in real products

• Experience with observability tools (e.g., Datadog, New Relic, or similar)

• Experience working with an e-commerce platform

• Familiarity with serverless architecture or container-based deployment in AWS

• Understanding of TDD , QA-as-code , and shift-left testing approaches
