Job summary

Government Recruitment Service in Cardiff is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to lead the department’s ML engineering capability, turning data science and AI opportunities into secure, production-grade services that meet user needs and can be operated, assured and improved over time.

You will collaborate with data scientists, software engineers, platform engineers, product managers and senior stakeholders to translate complex organisational challenges into scalable and sustainable ML

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development and deployment of complex machine learning solutions, providing technical direction and ensuring solutions meet user and organisational needs
• Provide technical leadership across the machine learning lifecycle, from data preparation to deployment, monitoring and improvement
• Set and champion engineering standards and best practice for ML development including testing, version control, documentation and security
• Lead the adoption and development of MLOps practices, including CI/CD, automated testing, deployment, monitoring and reproducible workflows
• Influence the department’s strategic approach to ML/AI, translating priorities into deliverable technical solutions
• Provide technical guidance and assurance on ML solutions, decisions around architecture, scalability, performance and risk
• Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and communicate ML concepts clearly for decision-making
• Champion responsible and secure AI, embedding fairness, privacy and governance throughout the lifecycle
• Build ML engineering capability by sharing knowledge and establishing standards and learning environments
• Promote innovation and continuous improvement by evaluating emerging approaches and technologies
