Job summary

Sompo, a global property, casualty and specialty insurer, seeks a Middle Market Underwriter for our UK Commercial Lines team based in Manchester. The role focuses on evaluating new and renewal submissions, pricing coverage, and setting terms in line with underwriting strategy.

You will build relationships with retail producers, drive profitability, and ensure governance and risk compliance. The ideal candidate has 8+ years in P&C middle-market underwriting and strong negotiation and

Qualifications

• 8+ years of P&C underwriting experience in the middle market.
• Undergraduate degree or higher, insurance or advanced degree preferred.
• Established relationships with retail producers.
• Strong negotiation and communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Prioritisation and evaluation of new and renewal submissions to identify opportunities for profit.
• Price and analyze coverage, structure and exposures on individual risks.
• Set terms and conditions per underwriting strategy and guidelines to quote qualified risks.
• Attend client/broker meetings and related events.
• Ensure profitability while complying with underwriting guidelines and procedures.
• Expand existing portfolio by developing relationships with existing and new clients.
• Conduct underwriting audits and refer risks outside authority for higher level approval.
