Job summary

Kier Group is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Southern Water team, based on site at Chichester / Falmer. You will lead mechanical installation activities across water and wastewater projects, delivering to approved designs, quality standards and safe systems of work.

This role provides day-to-day leadership of supervisors, subcontract labour and supply chain partners, with potential to develop into a Mechanical Authorising Engineer within Kier Southern Water.

Qualifications

• Experience leading mechanical installations on industrial, water, wastewater or process-sector projects.
• Strong practical knowledge of pumping systems, pipework, valves, treatment equipment and mechanical completion activities.
• A recognised Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3, HNC/HND, BTEC, ONC or equivalent qualification.
• CSCS Gold Card Supervisor or appropriate competence card, SSSTS or SMSTS, and a Full driving licence.
• Demonstrates strong leadership, communication, planning and problem-solving skills with good computer literacy.

Responsibilities

• Leading and coordinating daily mechanical installation activities to achieve safe, efficient and programme-compliant delivery.
• Reviewing mechanical drawings, specifications and documentation, escalating design or constructability issues promptly.
• Ensuring works comply with approved safety systems, permit requirements, CDM Regulations and relevant standards.
• Coordinating mechanical isolations, confined-space activities, pressure testing and other controlled work.
• Mentoring mechanical supervisors and team members, setting clear expectations and reinforcing consistent standards.
