Aldwych Consulting Ltd is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Building Services team in Birmingham. You will work across the North-West and Yorkshire, interfacing with site, client and design teams to translate site conditions into practical engineering solutions.

The role involves leading site appraisals, coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams, and delivering clear technical reports and briefs to clients. A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel are essential.

Qualifications

• Strong background in mechanical building services design and engineering.
• Experience undertaking site surveys and technical assessments.
• Ability to interpret building conditions and identify practical engineering solutions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to produce clear, professional technical reports and documentation.
• Confident representing an organisation with clients and project teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical site appraisals, condition surveys and technical feasibility assessments.
• Assess existing mechanical services, installations and building systems.
• Gather and interpret technical information to support design development.
• Produce clear and professional site reports, sketches, photographs and technical briefing documents.
• Act as the mechanical engineering lead in meetings with clients, architects, contractors and other stakeholders.
• Provide practical technical advice and identify potential mechanical solutions to site-based constraints.
• Liaise closely with the design team to translate site information into design requirements.
• Review mechanical installations during construction to ensure alignment with design intent and quality standards.
• Undertake periodic site inspections and provide technical observations and recommendations.
• Support projects through full lifecycle from initial site appraisal to handover.
• Coordinate mechanical requirements with electrical services, architecture and other disciplines.
