Job summary

Trant Engineering is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Southampton-based team. The role involves applying advanced engineering principles to design, manage, and deliver projects of moderate complexity, mentoring junior staff, and coordinating multidisciplinary teams to ensure on-time, within-budget delivery.

You will prepare specifications, drawings and project documentation, while upholding professional standards and sustainability principles.

Qualifications

• Higher Education (NVQ+) is required.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Master’s preferred.
• Membership of a Professional Engineering Institution is desirable.
• CSCS Card or SHEA Water Qualification is desirable.
• EUSR Water Hygiene Qualification is desirable.
• Typically 3–5 years of relevant engineering experience.

Responsibilities

• Designs and delivers projects of moderate complexity.
• Mentors junior staff and coordinates multidisciplinary teams.
• Oversees scopes, schedules and budgets while ensuring standards.
• Prepares comprehensive specifications and drawings.
• Maintains effective communication with stakeholders.
• Applies sustainability concepts to engineering projects.
