Job summary

Mercedes‑AMG PETRONAS F1 Team in Brackley, UK is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to own the design of mechanical, composite and hydraulic systems from concept to testing and integration. You will report to the Lead Design Engineer and drive high‑performance, low‑weight solutions for the car.

You will use Catia V5/3DX, apply FEA and design for manufacturability, and collaborate with structural and manufacturing teams to optimise performance and reliability across the vehicle platform.

Qualifications

• Mechanical, automotive, or aeronautical degree (2:1 minimum grade).
• In-depth understanding of mechanical design and first principles.
• Knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes.
• Experience with Catia V5/3DX modelling and surfacing is beneficial.
• Experience in suspension design and K&C analysis is advantageous.
• FEA tools and optimization experience with Catia is a plus.
• Strong communication and collaboration to enable cross‑department integration.
• High attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical, composite, and hydraulic systems for the car and integrate into the overall package.
• Perform mass tracking and support design optimisation to maximise performance while reducing weight.
• Collaborate with the structural team for part optimisation using Catia FEA.
• Deliver innovative designs that meet performance and reliability targets.
• Create 3D models, assemblies and 2D drawings with manufacturing documentation.
• Support lab testing and reliability programs for relevant designs and projects.
• Drive cost‑effective design solutions across the life cycle.
• Coordinate with manufacturing and other departments for integrated designs.
