Prime Appointments Ltd in Colchester area is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the development of bespoke machinery from concept to completion. You will use SolidWorks to create new machines and work closely with electrical and software engineers to bring designs to life.

The role requires strong mechanical design experience, excellent CAD skills (SolidWorks) and the ability to deliver precise machinery with moving parts. A relevant engineering qualification is preferred.

Qualifications

• Strong mechanical design experience, ideally in special-purpose machinery or automation.
• Excellent 3D CAD skills, preferably SolidWorks.
• Knowledge of mechanical mechanisms, moving assemblies and manufacturing processes.
• Experience with precision machinery, robotics or automated handling systems is advantageous.
• Relevant engineering qualification or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop special-purpose machinery from concept through to completion.
• Produce 3D models, assemblies and detailed drawings using SolidWorks.
• Design precision mechanisms, automated handling systems and tooling for small, delicate components.
• Develop machinery incorporating servo motors, stepper motors, robotics and vision systems.
• Work alongside electrical and software engineers to develop new equipment.
• Support prototyping, testing and continuous design improvements.
