Prime Appointments Recruitment Agency in Colchester, Essex, England, is hiring a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join a specialist manufacturing company in the Colchester area. You will design bespoke automated machinery from concept through to completion using SolidWorks, and collaborate with electrical and software engineers to bring designs to life.

The role is hands-on, requiring a strong mechanical design background and experience with precision machinery, robotics or automated

Qualifications

• Strong mechanical design background, ideally within special-purpose machinery or automation.
• Experience designing new machinery from initial concept.
• Excellent 3D CAD skills, preferably SolidWorks.
• Knowledge of mechanical mechanisms, moving assemblies and manufacturing processes.
• Experience with precision machinery, robotics or automated handling systems would be advantageous.
• Relevant engineering qualification or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop special-purpose machinery from concept through to completion
• Produce 3D models, assemblies and detailed drawings using SolidWorks
• Design precision mechanisms, automated handling systems and tooling for small, delicate components
• Develop machinery incorporating servo motors, stepper motors, robotics and vision systems
• Work alongside electrical and software engineers to develop new equipment
• Support prototyping, testing and continuous design improvements
