Job summary

Prime Appointments Ltd in Colchester area is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to turn concepts into finished machinery using SolidWorks. You'll design bespoke automated handling systems, working closely with electrical and software engineers.

This hands-on role focuses on developing precision machinery, from initial concept through to prototype, testing and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate has a strong CAD background and experience in automation.

Qualifications

• Experience designing new machinery from initial concept.
• Excellent 3D CAD skills, preferably SolidWorks.
• Knowledge of mechanical mechanisms, moving assemblies and manufacturing processes.
• Experience with precision machinery, robotics or automated handling systems would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop special–purpose machinery from concept through to completion.
• Produce 3D models, assemblies and detailed drawings using SolidWorks.
• Design precision mechanisms, automated handling systems and tooling for small, delicate components.
• Develop machinery incorporating servo motors, stepper motors, robotics and vision systems.
• Work alongside electrical and software engineers to develop new equipment.
• Support prototyping, testing and continuous design improvements.
