Prime Appointments Ltd in Colchester is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to design bespoke automated machinery from concept to completion. You will use SolidWorks to create 3D models, assemblies and detailed drawings, collaborating with electrical and software engineers to bring designs to life.

The role focuses on hands-on design of precision machinery, robotics and automated handling systems, with opportunities for prototyping, testing and ongoing improvements.

Qualifications

• Strong mechanical design background in special-purpose machinery or automation.
• Experience turning initial concept into finished machinery.
• Excellent 3D CAD, preferably SolidWorks.
• Knowledge of mechanisms, moving assemblies and manufacturing processes.
• Experience with precision machinery, robotics or automated handling is advantageous.
• Relevant engineering qualification or equivalent experience.

Responsabilités

• Design and develop special-purpose machinery from concept through to completion.
• Produce 3D models, assemblies and detailed drawings using SolidWorks.
• Design precision mechanisms, automated handling systems and tooling for small, delicate components.
• Develop machinery incorporating servo motors, stepper motors, robotics and vision systems.
• Work alongside electrical and software engineers to develop new equipment.
• Support prototyping, testing and continuous design improvements.
