Job summary

A Mechanical Design Engineer is sought for a Colchester area role. The successful candidate will design and develop mechanical and electromechanical products using 3D CAD, produce drawings and specifications, and support development from concept to manufacture.

Requirements include experience with SolidWorks, understanding of manufacturing processes, and ability to work with cross functional teams. Desirable skills include SolidWorks PDM and sheet metal design.

Qualifications

• Experience as Mechanical Design Engineer or Designer in product-based manufacturing.
• Strong SolidWorks 3D modelling and design skills.
• Solid understanding of manufacturing processes and standards.
• Experience designing components and assemblies.
• Knowledge of tolerance, DFMs and cost-effective engineering.
• Good communication, problem solving and organisational abilities.
• Relevant engineering qualification or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical and electromechanical products using 3D CAD.
• Produce detailed drawings, documentation and specifications.
• Support development from concept to prototyping, testing and manufacture.
• Apply DFM principles, tolerances and cost optimisation.
• Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing and project teams to deliver on time.
• Identify design improvements and troubleshoot issues.
• Support and mentor junior engineers when required.
