Job summary

Prime Appointments Ltd. is recruiting a Senior Mechanical Engineer in the Colchester area.

The role focuses on hands-on design and development of new automated manufacturing processes, from concept and prototyping through testing and implementation. You will work with servos, robotics, camera inspection and automated handling systems, leading a multidisciplinary team to integrate automation into production.

Qualifications

• Strong 3D CAD experience, preferably SolidWorks.
• Experience designing machinery, tooling or automated equipment.
• Experience working with small, miniature or delicate components.
• Good knowledge of engineering practices, manufacturing processes and tooling.
• Understanding of machine safety and safety-by-design.
• Experience working within an ISO 9001 environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design and development of automated machinery and manufacturing processes.
• Design component handling systems and tooling using SolidWorks.
• Develop prototypes and trial new processes and technologies.
• Work with electrical, software and manufacturing engineers to integrate automation into production.
• Identify opportunities to improve throughput, quality and production flexibility.
• Test and validate new machinery and processes.
• Maintain drawings, models and documentation in ISO 9001 environment.
• Ensure designs meet safety and engineering standards.
