Job summary

CIBSE Journal is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Building Services Engineer in the United Kingdom. You will take ownership of technical and commercial delivery, from initial sketches through detailed design to delivery, while liaising with clients and supervising junior staff.

Reporting to a Principal Design Engineer, you will manage programmes, budgets and quality, applying UK standards and working within a collaborative consultancy environment.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of mechanical building services design and energy assessment.
• Ability to develop projects from sketch design to detailed design.
• Understanding of UK standards, codes of practice and regulations.
• Experience managing projects, programmes, costs and quality.
• Ability to supervise and mentor engineers, technicians and trainees.
• Excellent client-facing and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop initial sketch designs and design briefs in response to client requirements.
• Undertake detailed mechanical building services design, including energy assessments.
• Take responsibility for selecting and developing engineering systems.
• Apply independent technical judgement to project design and delivery.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant standards and regulations.
• Manage design function on projects, including costing.
• Coordinate with other disciplines to align design parameters.
• Assist with CAD drawings and communicate design requirements to CAD Technicians.
• Undertake surveys and prepare reports on mechanical services and energy performance.
• Maintain effective client liaison and build strong relationships.
• Supervise and mentor engineers, technicians and trainees.
