Job summary

CIBSE Journal is seeking a Principal Electrical Design Engineer for a building services role within an established consultancy. The position focuses on leading end-to-end design delivery, client liaison and project leadership across multiple sectors.

The successful candidate will bring a minimum of 10 years consultancy experience, degree qualification, and strong MEPS/MEP knowledge, along with the ability to mentor engineers and manage site inspections, testing and commissioning activities.

Qualifications

• Ideally degree qualified.
• Minimum 10 years consultancy experience.
• Excellent technical knowledge in Electrical Design Engineering.
• Experience in administration, drawing and project document preparation.
• Understanding of multidisciplinary projects (MEP) and coordination.
• Site inspections and supervision of contractors.
• Ability to mentor graduates, engineers and senior engineers.
• Proven track record of delivering projects in an engineering design consultancy.
• Understanding of MEP design through all stages of the design process.

Responsibilities

• Take responsibility for design delivery and own the quality of work produced by your team.
• Lead and face clients, respond to client needs, develop and produce reports and specifications, undertake site inspections, oversee testing and commissioning, following legislation and safety policies.
• Perform electrical engineering design and oversee work performed by others in the team.
• Act as electrical discipline lead for projects and be responsible for resourcing and output quality.
• Provide technical leadership and support professional development of engineers within the team.
• Cover drawing practices and document control/management.
• Prepare and present designs, reports, calculations, and specifications.
• Conduct technical reviews of projects.
• Attend and/or arrange site attendance and prepare concise reports.
• Support Directors in financial control of projects.
