Job summary

West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking two Band 8a Matrons for Surgery leadership roles across Trauma & Orthopaedics and Surgery & Urology. These senior nurse posts involve strategic and operational leadership across multiple sites, delivering safe, high‑quality, patient‑centred care.

You will lead multidisciplinary teams, drive governance and patient safety, and participate in workforce planning and service improvement to support the Trust's aims.

Qualifications

• Registered practitioner with UK professional registration.
• Degree-level qualification and ongoing professional development.
• Teaching qualification or equivalent experience.
• Masters degree or working towards is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic and operational leadership across multiple services.
• Lead Senior Sisters/Charge Nurses and multidisciplinary teams.
• Drive patient safety, quality improvement and governance.
• Oversee workforce planning, recruitment and staff development.
• Support patient flow and achievement of key performance targets.
• Manage resources and contribute to financial planning.
• Promote continuous improvement, innovation and evidence-based practice.
• Collaborate with clinical and external partners to transform services.
