Job description

About the role

SZC is ultimately owned by two shareholders, Electricité de France (EDF) and His Majesty's Government (HMG). The shareholders hold their investment in SZC through NNB Holdings Company (SZC) Limited. Over time, the shareholdings of these shareholders will change.

The shareholders will fund SZC until Financial Close through equity, aligned with the approved schedule and budget. SZC's business involves designing, financing, constructing, commissioning, operating, maintaining, and eventually decommissioning the nuclear power plant and related infrastructure at Sizewell C in Suffolk, including activities related to hydrogen, direct air capture, and desalination. The current development phase aims to finalize the Capital Raise Plan, complete equity and debt financing, secure core supply chain contracts, and obtain necessary regulatory permits and licenses.

Previously, SZC operated as part of EDF within the Nuclear Development business unit, staffed by EDF colleagues and independent contractors, now transitioning to direct employment. The organization is establishing itself to deliver a new nuclear power plant, covering investment, construction, commissioning, operations, maintenance, and decommissioning.

The SZC construction program is based on replicating the technical and commercial aspects of Hinkley Point C. EDF remains a key supplier of nuclear capabilities for SZC from its established UK nuclear footprint.

Key stakeholders include HMG, relevant government departments and agencies (such as Treasury and BEIS), EDF, financial investors, regulators, alliance partners, and local communities.

What you'll be doing

The Sizewell C (SZC) project requires a Sr Marine Methods Engineer to support the development of construction methods and temporary works, including design assumptions, functional requirements, and temporary load states for offshore installation of reinforced concrete (RC) permanent structures in the North Sea.

This role involves coordinating and documenting the identification, development, evaluation, and selection of marine construction methods, establishing conservative design inputs to enable method-agnostic construction and competitive market engagement.

The engineer will sequence work packages to align with various design and construction schedules, prioritize critical temporary works, and ensure design briefs accurately reflect methods. Coordination with lead design consultants, temporary works designers, methods engineers, and supply chain partners is essential to develop methods, briefs, and designs compatible with client specifications or to inform necessary changes.

Responsibilities include developing construction sequences and methodologies for offshore RC and steel structures, heavy lifting, transportation, extraction, and rock placement, reviewing design for buildability, engaging with the market and suppliers, and supporting the development of delivery strategies for nearshore and offshore activities.

The role also involves defining functional and performance requirements to ensure alignment with construction methods and supporting engineering and design teams to progress asset designs accordingly.

Who we're looking for

Knowledge & Skills

  • Experience in planning and constructing major projects with emphasis on civil, structural, and offshore works, especially in a contractor-led environment involving fabrication and marine operations.
  • Experience in technical assurance roles, stakeholder engagement, design interfacing, and subcontractor coordination.
  • Effective communication skills, both listening and explaining considerations.
  • Teamwork, leadership, and proactive collaboration skills.
  • Proficiency in 3D and 4D modelling software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks), BIM clash detection, and model management.
  • Experience working in a contractor environment and managing relationships with project teams, supply chain, and clients under time constraints.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree and professional qualification or working towards one.
  • Knowledge of Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.
  • Minimum 5 years' relevant offshore construction and operations experience, including work with Jack-up platforms, workboats, or vessels with DP systems.
  • At least 5 years' experience in technical roles within a contractor's organization, demonstrating team leadership and work coordination on major projects.

Desirable

  • Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) certification and offshore temporary works design experience.
  • Experience offshore with drilling, dredging, pile driving, heavy lift, and transportation.
  • Previous experience in secant piles and offshore grouting operations.
