A leading company is seeking a Sr Marine Methods Engineer to support the Sizewell C project. This role involves developing construction methods for offshore installation, coordinating with various stakeholders, and ensuring project specifications are met. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in offshore construction and strong leadership skills. Join a team that delivers critical infrastructure projects across the UK.
SZC is ultimately owned by two shareholders, Electricité de France (EDF) and His Majesty's Government (HMG). The shareholders hold their investment in SZC through NNB Holdings Company (SZC) Limited. Over time, the shareholdings of these shareholders will change.
The shareholders will fund SZC until Financial Close through equity, aligned with the approved schedule and budget. SZC's business involves designing, financing, constructing, commissioning, operating, maintaining, and eventually decommissioning the nuclear power plant and related infrastructure at Sizewell C in Suffolk, including activities related to hydrogen, direct air capture, and desalination. The current development phase aims to finalize the Capital Raise Plan, complete equity and debt financing, secure core supply chain contracts, and obtain necessary regulatory permits and licenses.
Previously, SZC operated as part of EDF within the Nuclear Development business unit, staffed by EDF colleagues and independent contractors, now transitioning to direct employment. The organization is establishing itself to deliver a new nuclear power plant, covering investment, construction, commissioning, operations, maintenance, and decommissioning.
The SZC construction program is based on replicating the technical and commercial aspects of Hinkley Point C. EDF remains a key supplier of nuclear capabilities for SZC from its established UK nuclear footprint.
Key stakeholders include HMG, relevant government departments and agencies (such as Treasury and BEIS), EDF, financial investors, regulators, alliance partners, and local communities.
The Sizewell C (SZC) project requires a Sr Marine Methods Engineer to support the development of construction methods and temporary works, including design assumptions, functional requirements, and temporary load states for offshore installation of reinforced concrete (RC) permanent structures in the North Sea.
This role involves coordinating and documenting the identification, development, evaluation, and selection of marine construction methods, establishing conservative design inputs to enable method-agnostic construction and competitive market engagement.
The engineer will sequence work packages to align with various design and construction schedules, prioritize critical temporary works, and ensure design briefs accurately reflect methods. Coordination with lead design consultants, temporary works designers, methods engineers, and supply chain partners is essential to develop methods, briefs, and designs compatible with client specifications or to inform necessary changes.
Responsibilities include developing construction sequences and methodologies for offshore RC and steel structures, heavy lifting, transportation, extraction, and rock placement, reviewing design for buildability, engaging with the market and suppliers, and supporting the development of delivery strategies for nearshore and offshore activities.
The role also involves defining functional and performance requirements to ensure alignment with construction methods and supporting engineering and design teams to progress asset designs accordingly.
