Job Description:

Do you enjoy tax technical research and solving complex technical queries? We are looking for a talented individual at Senior Manager level, from either a corporate or mixed tax background, to be part of our national Central Technical Team. The ideal candidate will have very strong technical skills, drive and curiosity.

The Central Technical team works together with teams across the tax practice to collect, create, curate, and communicate technical insight for the benefit of our teams and clients. This involves carrying out original research, analyzing knowledge submissions, producing and maintaining technical resources, assisting with complex technical queries, producing tax technical newsletters, and monitoring important tax developments from case law or the Budget and Finance Bill process, working closely with the Tax Policy team as required.

We are expanding the team to enhance our technical expertise, expand our collection of guidance, and ensure our references are current and aligned with technological developments, including AI tools.

Team members are based across the UK, supporting hybrid and flexible working. While the role is not directly client-facing, it is important that the candidate understands client issues.

Responsibilities:
  1. Managing the production of technical reference and thought leadership materials.
  2. Developing guidance structures on relevant topics.
  3. Conducting independent research to draft technical materials based on legislation, case law, and guidance, incorporating insights from resources and experts.
  4. Supporting and reviewing research carried out by others.
  5. Maintaining and updating materials promptly for legal and practice changes.
  6. Supporting client service teams with complex technical queries.
  7. Engaging with HMRC and HMT on relevant issues, including responses to consultations.
  8. Collaborating with technology specialists to develop research tools, including AI solutions.
  9. Providing technical support and training to the learning team as needed.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Legal or tax qualification (CTA or equivalent).
  • Ability to conduct tax research and critically assess analysis based on legislation and case law.
  • Confidence in interpreting and explaining legislation and case law.
  • Good understanding of the UK tax system and ability to learn new regimes quickly.
  • Awareness of client issues and risk management.
  • Familiarity with tax technology tools, including AI.
  • Experience in delivering practical advice to clients is desirable but not essential.
