Senior Manager - Tax Technical Research

Do you enjoy tax technical research and solving complex technical queries? We are seeking a talented individual at the Senior Manager level, with a background in corporate or mixed tax, to join our national Central Technical Team. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills, drive, and curiosity.

The Central Technical team collaborates with various teams across the tax practice to gather, create, curate, and communicate technical insights. This includes conducting original research, analyzing knowledge submissions, producing and maintaining technical resources, assisting with complex queries, and monitoring tax developments arising from case law or legislative changes, in close coordination with the Tax Policy team.

We are expanding the team to enhance our technical expertise, accelerate our collection of guidance, and ensure our resources are current and technologically advanced, including integration of AI tools.

Team members are located across the UK, supporting flexible and hybrid working arrangements. While the role is not directly client-facing, an understanding of client issues is essential.

Responsibilities

• Managing the production of technical reference and thought leadership materials.
• Developing structured guidance on relevant topics.
• Conducting independent research to draft technical materials based on legislation, case law, and guidance, incorporating insights from various sources.
• Overseeing research conducted by others and reviewing draft content.
• Maintaining and updating materials promptly to reflect legal and practical changes.
• Supporting client service teams with complex technical queries.
• Engaging with HMRC and HMT on relevant issues, including responses to consultations.
• Collaborating with technology specialists on developing research tools, including AI applications.
• Providing technical support to the learning team, including developing and delivering training as needed.

Requirements

• Relevant legal or tax qualification (CTA or equivalent).
• Ability to conduct tax research and critically assess analysis based on legislation and case law.
• Confidence in interpreting and explaining legislation and case law.
• Strong understanding of the UK tax system and the ability to learn new regimes quickly.
• Awareness of client issues and risk management.
• Knowledge of tax technology tools, including AI.
• Experience in delivering practical advice to clients is desirable but not essential.
