Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a Part-time Senior Learning Disability Nurse to join the Integrated Mental Health team at HMP New Hall, a female prison and young offenders institution (YOI) in Flockton, West Yorkshire.

Hours

25 hours a week, working 2 full days (8:00 am – 6:00 pm) and 1 half day (8:00 am – 1:00 pm), on a rota between Monday and Sunday. 1 weekend every 5–6 weeks to cover both days, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm.

Salary

This position is part-time; annual salary up to £49,175 FTE, depending on experience.

What you’ll be doing

As a Senior Learning Disabilities Nurse, your responsibilities will vary. You will:

  • Respond as directed by the Mental Health Team Manager in the day-to-day operational functioning of the Mental Health team.
  • Have responsibility for a caseload and be accountable for all aspects of delivering a nursing service for adults with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour within the criminal justice setting.
  • Work with adults whose behaviours have resulted in their offending and coming into contact with the criminal justice system.
  • Work with the multi-disciplinary team to undertake person-centred specialist behavioural assessments, planning and coordination of positive non-aversive behavioural approaches to service users.
  • Participate in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the patient’s care following policies and procedures, always considering safeguarding.

Qualifications Required
  • Registered Nurse – Learning Disabilities
  • Current professional qualification (NMC)
  • Evidence of Continued Professional Development
  • Substantial experience working with adults with learning disabilities with a range of clinical presentations. Evidence of working in learning disability health within a community or inpatient setting.
  • Able to evidence examples of integrated multidisciplinary working
  • Evidence of use of a range of standardized and non-standardized behavioural assessment tools supporting clinical reasoning
  • Experience of working in a mental health team – desirable

Although not essential, ideal applicants would have experience in a hospital, community or prison environment.
