Job summary

Leicestershire County Council invites applications for a Senior Specialist Teacher of Cognition and Learning. You will lead within the Specialist Teaching Service, shaping service development and supporting schools to improve outcomes for learners with SEND across the 5–19 age range.

You will provide specialist assessment, guidance and training, work with families and partner agencies, and deputise for the Team Manager as required. A strong leadership track record is essential.

Qualifications

• Degree level qualification and Qualified Teacher Status with evidence of continuing professional development in Cognition and Learning.
• Experience with cognition and learning needs including dyslexia/dyscalculia.
• Strong knowledge of SEND assessment, teaching strategies and interventions.
• Ability to work in multi‑agency contexts and support service development in SEND.
• Experience delivering training and professional development to schools and partners.
• Leadership, supervision and line management skills.
• Knowledge of statutory/local SEND legislation and safeguarding responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead on areas of work within the Specialist Teaching Service and deputise for the Team Manager.
• Provide performance management and professional supervision within the team.
• Contribute to staff development, deployment and service planning across Leicestershire.
• Represent the Team on multi‑agency groups, partnerships and initiatives.
• Support schools to strengthen inclusive practice and improve SEND outcomes.
• Deliver training, consultation and professional development to educational settings.
• Maintain records and contribute to quality assurance and resources.
• Provide specialist assessment and guidance for learners with cognition and learning needs.
