Job summary

Mastek in Leeds is seeking an experienced Senior Java Developer to join a major Banking & Financial Services programme. You will design, build, test and maintain enterprise-grade applications in cloud-native environments using Java, AWS, and modern DevOps practices.

Collaborate with architects, engineers, product teams, and stakeholders to deliver secure, scalable solutions. You will mentor junior developers and contribute to continuous improvement across delivery processes.

Qualifications

• Experience developing Java/Kotlin applications.
• Experience with AWS cloud technologies.
• Experience with Node.js and TypeScript.
• Strong SQL and database development skills.
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases, particularly DynamoDB.
• Strong understanding of software engineering best practices, design patterns, and application architecture.
• Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong knowledge of Git and GitHub Actions.
• Experience with Docker and containerised deployment approaches.
• Understanding of DevOps and DevSecOps principles.
• Strong understanding of AWS security best practices
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and collaboration skills.
• Previous experience working within Banking, Financial Services, or other highly regulated environments.
• Experience supporting cloud migration, platform modernisation, or digital transformation programmes.
• Knowledge of secure software development lifecycle practices.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain enterprise-grade applications using Java and related technologies.
• Build and enhance cloud-native solutions using AWS services and modern development practices.
• Collaborate with architects, engineers, product teams, and stakeholders to deliver business-critical solutions.
• Contribute to solution architecture and technical design discussions.
• Develop and consume APIs to support integration between business systems and applications.
• Implement secure coding practices and ensure alignment with organisational security standards.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines to support automated deployment and testing activities.
• Support DevOps and DevSecOps initiatives across the development lifecycle.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimise application performance and reliability.
• Participate in code reviews and champion engineering best practices.
• Mentor and support junior developers within the team.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across software engineering and delivery processes.
