Job summary

JP Morgan Chase in the United Kingdom seeks a software engineer with hands-on system design, development, and testing experience across the full SDLC. You will work with Java/Spring, Kafka, Cassandra/MongoDB, and enterprise AI tools to build secure, scalable payments software as the platform moves from Kubernetes-based private cloud toward AWS.

Qualifications

• Hands-on practical experience in system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
• Experience developing, debugging, and maintaining code in a large corporate environment with one or more modern programming languages and database querying languages.
• Knowledge of distributed technologies such as Kafka for messaging and NoSQL databases such as Cassandra or MongoDB.
• Ability to collaborate with high-performing teams and individuals across the firm to accomplish common goals.
• Experience across the full Software Development Life Cycle.
• Hands-on experience using enterprise-authorized AI-assisted software development tools in the work environment, with the ability to critically evaluate and validate AI-generated outputs.
• Understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity considerations, secure handling of inputs and outputs, and adherence to resiliency and security expectations.
• Exposure to agile methodologies such as CI/CD, application resiliency, and security.
• Emerging knowledge of software applications and technical processes within a technical discipline such as cloud, artificial intelligence, machine learning, or mobile.
• Proficiency in object-oriented concepts, design patterns, Java, and Spring.

Responsibilities

• Execute standard software solutions, design, development, and technical troubleshooting.
• Write secure and high-quality code using at least one programming language with limited guidance.
• Design, develop, code, and troubleshoot with consideration of upstream and downstream systems and technical implications.
• Apply knowledge of tools within the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain to improve the value realized by automation.
• Apply technical troubleshooting to break down solutions and solve technical problems of basic complexity.
• Gather, analyze, and draw conclusions from large, diverse data sets to identify problems and support secure, stable application development.
• Leverage enterprise-authorized AI coding assist tools to improve code quality, delivery speed, and productivity, while validating outputs through peer review, automated testing, and secure coding standards.
• Apply knowledge of Software Development Life Cycle tools, including enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to improve the value realized by automation.
• Learn and apply system processes, methodologies, and skills for developing secure, stable code and systems.
