Job summary

Slice is seeking a Senior IT Technician in Barnsley with travel to customer sites. The role blends advanced service desk support with hands-on project delivery, acting as the escalation point for complex issues while planning and delivering infrastructure upgrades at client sites.

You will work across 2nd/3rd line support, lead projects end-to-end, and mentor junior engineers. A UK driving licence is required due to travel needs.

Qualifications

• Experience in an MSP or customer-facing IT support environment.
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft 365, Azure, and Windows Server.
• Solid experience with networking, firewalls, backup, and disaster recovery.
• Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and organisational skills.

Responsibilities

• Providing 2nd and 3rd line technical support across telephone, remote access, email, and ticketing systems.
• Diagnosing and resolving complex IT incidents, acting as the go-to escalation point for 1st line technicians and apprentices.
• Planning and delivering customer infrastructure projects end-to-end — from initial scoping through to handover.
• Installing and supporting Microsoft 365, Azure, Windows Server, and Hyper-V environments, plus networking, firewalls, Wi-Fi, backup, and cyber security solutions.
• Carrying out site surveys, migrations, upgrades, and technical assessments.
• Building strong customer relationships and acting as a trusted technical advisor.
• Mentoring junior engineers and apprentices, and championing best practice across the team.
