Job summary

Hoot Recruit is seeking an experienced Senior IT Technician / IT Support & Infrastructure Engineer for a site-based role in Frodsham. You will provide hands-on IT support across the business, manage Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Entra ID, and support endpoint management with Intune/MDM.

The role involves working across infrastructure, networking and cyber security, including backups and disaster recovery.

Qualifications

• Hands-on 2nd-line support with 3rd-line exposure
• Experience with Microsoft 365, AD and Entra ID
• Networking knowledge: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, Wi‑Fi
• Windows desktop and Windows Server experience preferred
• Intune/MDM or similar endpoint management
• Strong understanding of cyber security and risk
• Ability to troubleshoot independently
• Clear communication of IT/security concepts to non‑technical colleagues

Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on 1st–3rd line IT support as required

• Apply security updates, patching, antivirus and endpoint protection
• Identify and address cyber security risks, incidents and recovery processes
• Monitor systems and maintain security controls
• Manage starters/leavers and access provisioning
• Maintain IT assets, licenses, documentation, and procedures
• Collaborate with third-party providers for IT/security projects
• Promote cyber security awareness across the organisation

Senior IT Technician / IT Support & Infrastructure Engineer

Frodsham, Cheshire

£37,000 – £42,000

Permanent | Full-time | Site-based

We're recruiting an experienced IT support and infrastructure professional to join a successful and growing organisation based in Frodsham.

This is a broad, hands‑on position combining IT support, infrastructure, networking and cyber security.

We're looking for someone with the technical depth and confidence to take day‑to‑day ownership of the IT environment. You'll be the go‑to person for IT on site, supporting users while also taking an active role in protecting the organisation's systems, devices, networks and data.

This isn't simply a service desk position. You'll need to be comfortable investigating technical and security issues independently and seeing problems through to resolution.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Providing hands‑on 1st, 2nd and where required 3rd‑line IT support
• Taking day‑to‑day ownership of IT issues across the business
• Supporting and administering Microsoft 365, Active Directory and Entra ID
• Managing users, permissions, MFA and access controls
• Supporting Intune/MDM, endpoint management and device security
• Maintaining desktops, laptops, mobile devices, printers and associated hardware
• Troubleshooting LAN/WAN, Wi‑Fi, switches, routers, VPNs, DNS and DHCP
• Supporting Windows Server and wider IT infrastructure
• Managing security updates, patching, antivirus and endpoint protection
• Helping identify and respond to cyber security risks, vulnerabilities and incidents
• Supporting backup, recovery and disaster recovery processes
• Monitoring systems and maintaining appropriate security controls
• Supporting starters/leavers and ensuring access is appropriately provisioned and removed
• Maintaining IT assets, licences, documentation and security procedures
• Working with third‑party technology and security providers where necessary
• Supporting IT upgrades, migrations and infrastructure/security projects
• Helping promote cyber security awareness and good practice across the organisation

What We’re Looking For

We're particularly interested in candidates who've worked in an SME, manufacturing, engineering, infrastructure or site‑based environment where they've had broad responsibility rather than operating within one narrow area of IT.

• Strong hands‑on 2nd‑line support, with exposure to 3rd‑line/infrastructure issues
• Microsoft 365, Active Directory and Entra ID experience
• Good networking knowledge including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN and Wi‑Fi
• Windows desktop and ideally Windows Server experience
• Intune, MDM or other endpoint management experience
• A strong practical understanding of cyber security
• Experience of areas such as MFA, Conditional Access, endpoint protection, patching, vulnerability management, backups and access control
• The ability to recognise potential security issues and take appropriate action
• The confidence to troubleshoot technical problems independently
• Strong communication skills and the ability to explain security and IT issues to non‑technical colleagues

Microsoft, CompTIA, Cisco, ITIL or cyber security qualifications would be advantageous, but practical experience and technical ability are more important.
