Job summary

HM Revenue & Customs is seeking a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to join the Tooling & Automation team, providing technical leadership while developing and supporting business-critical tooling used across HMRC to deliver infrastructure as code and deploy services.

You’ll work primarily with AWS, Linux and CI/CD tooling (GitLab, Jenkins, AWX, Terraform), lead live-service activities, and collaborate with architects and service owners to improve resilience, security and automation in a complex

Qualifications

• Experience in complex live-service environments with technical leadership.
• AWS and Linux/RHEL engineering and administration; Windows knowledge.
• Automation and CI/CD using GitLab, Jenkins, AWX, Terraform.
• Containers and networking with Docker, Nginx or Traefik.
• Tooling services including Nexus, Artifactory, Vault, GitLab, Jenkins, AWX.
• Service management knowledge: ITIL, DevOps, Agile; leadership capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead BAU support, incident and change management to protect service availability.
• Maintain and improve tooling: Nexus, GitLab, Bastion, AWX, Vault, Jenkins, Artifactory.
• Oversee access, patches, upgrades and lifecycle risks across tooling estate.
• Maintain AWS-hosted infrastructure, Linux/RHEL, containers and CI/CD services.
• Work with architects to turn designs into secure, supportable solutions.
• Deliver through Agile practices and maintain technical documentation.
• Lead engineers, coach teams and collaborate with product managers and suppliers.
