Location: Cardiff, hybrid working
Salary: up to £65,000 depending on experience plus a potential bonus up to £13,000
The Role
As our Senior Infrastructure Engineer, you will:
- Take ownership of the cloud infrastructure that underpins our SaaS products and internal tooling – this will be your primary focus.
- Plan, implement and test solutions independently, from initial design through to delivery.
- Analyse our existing infrastructure and propose improvements.
- Build proof-of-concept solutions to evaluate new technologies.
- Write clear documentation so others can understand and build on your work.
- Mentor junior engineers on technology, architecture and best practices.
- Get involved with other technology streams, such as Oracle Database & Middleware Administration and End User Computing, learning these technologies and helping the wider team support them (no prior experience needed).
What you’ll bring
- A self-starting approach – you're comfortable owning a problem from planning through to tested delivery.
- Curiosity and an appetite for exploring new technologies.
- A genuine enjoyment of sharing knowledge and helping others grow.
- A belief that constant learning underpins good engineering.
Requirements
Essential:
- Ability to design, build, and operate cloud infrastructure that supports production services, with an understanding of how platforms evolve to meet changing technical and business needs.
- Strong hands-on knowledge of core AWS services such as EC2, VPC, ECS, EKS, RDS, and IAM, alongside a practical understanding of cloud security, networking (VPCs, subnets, routing, gateways, firewall rules, NAT), and scalability.
- Experience with container orchestration – we currently use ECS and are reviewing a potential migration to EKS.
- Proven use of Infrastructure-as-Code tools (for example, Terraform or similar) to deliver repeatable, version-controlled, and well-governed infrastructure.
- Experience building and improving CI/CD pipelines that enable automated, reliable delivery of infrastructure and platform changes.
- Working knowledge of observability practices and tooling, including metrics, logging, and alerting, with an understanding of how observability supports reliable operations and incident response.
- Strong scripting skills in a language such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell to automate operational tasks and workflows.
Desirable:
- Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 services such as Entra ID, Intune, Defender, and Conditional Access, particularly in security-conscious environments.
- Exposure to Oracle Database, Oracle middleware, or PostgreSQL administration – or a willingness to learn.
- Experience administering Linux and Windows machines, both directly via the command line and through configuration management with Ansible.
