Job summary

WSP is seeking an Associate Director/Associate to drive hydromorphology work with a focus on watercourse Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) and WFD advisory support. You will lead delivery, mentor a growing team, and help shape strategic pipelines across the UK.

The role involves senior technical direction on BNG and WFD projects, engaging with landowners, and developing innovative river restoration approaches. Flexible location with hybrid working across UK offices.

Qualifications

• Degree in Geography, Environmental Science, Ecology, or similar.
• Chartered membership (CIWEM/CIEEM) preferred.
• River Condition Assessment accreditation desirable.
• Strong track record in watercourse biodiversity net gain (BNG).
• Ability to integrate WFD, BNG, river restoration and nature-based solutions into coherent project strategies.

Responsibilities

• Lead application of the Watercourse BNG Metric and review River Condition Assessments.
• Lead WFD compliance assessments and provide senior technical support.
• Support business planning, sales, and bid development for BNG, WFD, and hydromorphology.
• Identify opportunities to expand BNG delivery pipelines and advise on HMMPs.
