Job summary

WSP is seeking an Associate Director / Associate to drive the Hydromorphology service line, focusing on watercourse Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) and WFD advisory work. You will lead technical delivery and help grow a robust pipeline across the UK, with a senior role in catchment science and water resources projects.

You will work within a growing hydromorphology team across the UK, contributing to landmark river restoration projects and nature-based solutions while mentoring staff and supporting

Qualifications

• Degree in Geography, Environmental Science, Ecology, or similar.
• Professional membership (e.g. CIWEM, CIEEM, RGS), ideally Chartered.
• River Condition Assessment accreditation.
• Strong track record in watercourse Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) and WFD integration.

Responsibilities

• Lead and review application of Watercourse BNG Metric and River Condition Assessments.
• Lead and review WFD compliance assessments.
• Provide senior technical support to watercourse BNG team.
• Support business planning, sales and bid development for BNG, WFD and hydromorphology.
• Identify opportunities to expand watercourse BNG delivery pipelines.
• Oversee Habitat Management and Monitoring Plans (HMMPs) to secure 30-year BNG.
• Provide direction on multidisciplinary projects with WFD and BNG.
• Advise on landowner engagement strategies for off-site BNG delivery.
• Support development of river restoration and nature-based solutions.
