Job summary

WSP is seeking an Associate Director / Associate to lead hydromorphology work with a primary focus on watercourse Biodiversity Net Gain. You will guide BNG delivery, support WFD assessments, and shape advisory projects within a growing Catchment Science team across the UK.

The role offers senior technical leadership, opportunities for career progression, and flexible location within the UK. The team is spread across hubs in Scotland, Leeds, London, and Bristol, with a strong track record on

Qualifications

• Degree in Geography, Environmental Science, Ecology, or similar.
• Professional membership (CIWEM, CIEEM, RGS), ideally Chartered.
• River Condition Assessment accreditation.
• Strong track record in watercourse BNG and WFD delivery.

Responsibilities

• Lead and review Watercourse BNG metric applications.
• Lead WFD compliance assessments.
• Provide senior technical support to watercourse BNG team.
• Support business planning, sales, and bid development for watercourse BNG, WFD, and hydromorphology.
• Identify opportunities to expand watercourse BNG delivery pipelines.
• Oversee and advise on Habitat Management and Monitoring Plans (HMMPs) to secure BNG for 30 years.
• Provide high-level technical direction on multidisciplinary projects where both WFD and BNG are being completed.
• Advise on landowner engagement strategies for off-site BNG delivery.
• Support development of innovative approaches to river restoration, enhancement, and nature-based solutions.
