Job summary

Siemens Energy in the United Kingdom is seeking a Senior Primary Design Engineer to contribute to high voltage substation design within the Grid Technology division. You will collaborate with engineers and external partners to ensure quality, safety, and efficiency, shaping the future of energy systems.

The role requires leading design tasks, reviewing calculations, and guiding junior engineers, with a focus on HV standards and safety compliance.

Qualifications

• HNC or Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
• Professional Engineering status (e.g., Chartered) or working towards.
• Minimum of 7 years in Electricity Transmission and Distribution, with at least 3 years in the UK Transmission System.
• Strong knowledge of HV substation design standards and health and safety regulations.
• Ability to manage small design teams and mentor junior engineers.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Experience in sustainability and environmental design considerations is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical input for substation designs to support 3D models.
• Review and produce engineering design calculations, drawings, and documents to meet specs and safety standards.
• Manage external design resources and approve deliverables.
• Offer technical guidance to internal and external design engineers.
• Participate in HAZID/HAZOP/HAZCON meetings to address issues.
• Maintain design change control processes and respond to non-conformances.
• Coordinate with departments and attend site meetings to resolve construction issues.
• Assist in the professional development of junior engineering staff.
