Job summary

Matchtech Group client is seeking a Senior Primary Engineer to join its Transmission and Distribution team in Scotland on a permanent basis. The role focuses on delivering senior technical services for high-voltage substation projects across T&D and renewable sectors, including onshore/offshore wind, solar and BESS developments.

The candidate will lead design deliverables for AIS/GIS, mentor engineers and ensure adherence to IEC/IEEE and UK guidelines, while coordinating with multidisciplinary

Qualifications

• Degree in electrical engineering or closely related discipline.
• Significant experience in substation primary engineering within Transmission and Distribution, renewable energy or BESS projects.
• Strong knowledge of 275kV and 400kV substation design (AIS/GIS).
• Familiarity with UK standards, National Grid guidance, and related design handbooks.

Responsibilities

• Lead primary engineering deliverables for substations and electrical infrastructure from 11kV to 400kV, with emphasis on 132kV+.
• Prepare proposals, scopes, conceptual designs, execution plans, and detailed design packages.
• Develop layouts and design documentation for AIS and GIS, including land use planning and BOMs.
• Coordinate design activities with civil, structural, networks and transmission line teams; conduct design reviews with clients and stakeholders.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to engineers; promote Safety by Design and continuous process improvement.
