Job summary

SP Manweb is hiring a Senior Protection and Control Design Engineer to develop safe, compliant protection, control and substation automation solutions for 132kV and 33kV networks across the North Wales and North West England area.

You'll cover feasibility through to handover, delivering design packages, protection studies and settings while promoting safety by design and cyber-aware engineering.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• Extensive experience in high‑voltage protection and control engineering on 132kV networks.
• Knowledge of IEC61850, protection philosophies and testing documentation.

Responsibilities

• Define protection, control and substation automation requirements across study and construction stages.
• Prepare and check detailed designs including diagrams, interlocking and wiring diagrams.
• Develop protection settings and relay schemes for feeders, transformers and busbars.
• Review designs, calculations and test documentation for compliance and safety.
• Provide technical assistance during manufacture, commissioning and energisation.
