Job summary

Deploy Recruitment Group is seeking an experienced Protection and Control Design Engineer to lead HV substation and power infrastructure designs within a FTSE 250 group. You will mentor junior engineers and collaborate with project managers, clients, and multidisciplinary teams.

The role offers hybrid or remote work with strong emphasis on delivering safe, compliant, and reliable protection, control, and SCADA schemes up to 132 kV across UK networks.

Qualifications

• Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• Experience in control and protection design in UK electricity distribution or transmission (11kV–132kV).
• Familiarity with protection relays, relay configuration, and IEC 61850.
• Knowledge of ENA, IEC and NPg standards and NPg policies.
• Ability to read schematics, settings schedules, and manufacturer specifications.
• Driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Develop protection applications for feeders, transformers, and busbars (11 kV–132 kV).
• Configure relays, write setting files, and implement IEC 61850 and DNP3 schemes.
• Prepare logic diagrams, CTs/VTs, and NPg-per manufacturer wiring.
• Provide technical review of designs from ICPs and external teams.
• Conduct protection coordination studies and settings calculations.
• Support project delivery, factory acceptance testing, and site commissioning.
