Job summary

Deploy Recruitment Group is seeking an experienced Protection and Control Design Engineer to lead high-quality designs for HV substations and power infrastructure in the UK. You will develop protection, control, and SCADA schemes for up to 132kV, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate with project managers and clients across multidisciplinary teams.

You will work within a multi-disciplinary environment, delivering from concept through detailed engineering and delivery support, including

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Proven experience in control and protection design within UK electricity distribution or transmission.
• Familiarity with protection relays, relay configuration, and logic programming.
• Knowledge of IEC 61850 engineering.
• Strong understanding of DNO technical standards; NPg knowledge advantageous.
• Experience with ENA, IEC, NPg standards and policies.
• Proficiency in design/analysis software (DIGSILENT, ETAP, AutoCAD).
• Ability to read schematics, settings schedules, and manufacturer specs.
• Excellent technical, analytical, and communication skills; driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Develop protection and control design for HV feeders, transformers, and busbars (11kV–132kV).
• Configure relays, create setting files, implement IEC 61850 and DNP3 schemes.
• Produce connection/switching diagrams and documentation.
• Review designs from ICPs and external teams.
• Conduct protection coordination studies and settings calculations.
• Ensure compliance with NPg standards and industry regs.
• Collaborate with internal teams, clients and stakeholders to deliver to schedule.
• Provide technical support during delivery including FAT and site commissioning.
