Job summary

AECOM is seeking an experienced Senior Cable System Design Engineer to join our Transmission & Distribution team in the UK. You will deliver full lifecycle cable engineering from feasibility through to commissioning on onshore infrastructure projects, collaborating with clients including TSO/ DNOs and private developers.

You will work across HV/EHV levels, applying advanced analysis and tools, while embracing a flexible hybrid working model and opportunities for professional development within a

Qualifications

• HNC in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related discipline required.
• FEED experience essential for onshore HV/EHV projects.
• Experience with HV/EHV cable routing, burial risk assessments, and installation planning.
• Knowledge of IEC, CIGRÉ, and NG-TPs standards; experience with ECI engineering is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Deliver full lifecycle cable engineering packages from feasibility studies to commissioning.
• Review HV cable designs including routing, burial risk, thermal, EMI and mechanical calculations.
• Undertake cable rating studies including ampacity, short-circuit forces, thermal stability, and EMI analysis.
• Carry out cable pulling, jointing, cleating, and installation feasibility studies.
• Collaborate with civil, structural, substation and OHL teams for integrated solutions.
• Conduct third-party inspections and support FAT/SAT, installation and commissioning activities.
• Support interface with manufacturers, suppliers, and contractors to verify IEC, CIGRÉ, NG-TPs compliance.
• Participate in client meetings, workshops, HAZID/HAZOP, and multidisciplinary coordination.
