Job summary

Arup in the United Kingdom seeks a highly experienced technical leader to deliver HV cable system designs for major electricity transmission projects. You will guide design teams, manage risk, and ensure compliance with IEC/IEEE and national grid standards across AC/DC, HV/EHV, overhead and underground schemes.

You will mentor engineers, support tendering with technical insights and cost optimization, and champion new technology initiatives while shaping best practice design across a diverse

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• Chartered Engineer status is essential.
• Experience in high‑voltage transmission cable design (HV/EHV).
• Proven track record leading engineering teams on large projects.
• Strong knowledge of IEC, IEEE and other standards.
• Proficiency in design software (CDEGS, CYMCAP, Comsol, AutoCAD).

Responsibilities

• Lead technical delivery and strategic direction for HV cable systems.
• Guide design teams and oversee lifecycle from concept to detail.
• Ensure compliance with IEC, IEEE and grid standards.
• Mentor junior engineers and conduct rigorous design reviews.
• Support tendering with technical insights and cost optimisation.
