Job summary

Arup is seeking a highly experienced leader to deliver technical leadership and strategic delivery for transmission cable system designs. You will champion best practice for HV/AC and HVDC cable design, oversee full lifecycle, and act as the primary technical interface for clients, regulators, and contractors.

You will mentor engineers and drive rigorous technical reviews across a diverse project portfolio.

Qualifications

A Degree in Electrical Engineering and Chartered Engineer status are required.
Extensive experience in high‑voltage transmission cable design (HV/EHV).
Proven track record leading engineering teams and delivering large‑scale projects.
Strong knowledge of IEC, IEEE, and relevant standards.
Proficiency in design software such as CDEGS, CYMCAP, Comsol, AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

Define and uphold best‑in‑class practices for HVAC and HVDC cable design.
Guide design teams with clarity and confidence across projects.
Act as the primary technical authority for complex cable projects.
Drive innovation, manage risk, and ensure compliance with IEC/IEEE/national grid standards.
Support tendering with authoritative cost‑optimisation insights and client liaison.
