Job summary

Arup, a Leeds-based engineering consultancy, seeks a Lead/Principal Cable Design Engineer to drive technical delivery of HV cable systems for major transmission projects. You will guide design teams, manage risk, and ensure compliance with IEC/IEEE standards across AC/DC, overhead and underground solutions.

Applicants should hold a degree in Electrical Engineering with Chartered Engineer status, and have a proven track record in delivering large-scale HV/EHV projects.

Qualifications

Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline; Chartered Engineer status essential.
Experience in high-voltage transmission cable design (HV/EHV).
Proven track record leading engineering teams and delivering large-scale projects.
Strong knowledge of IEC, IEEE, and other relevant standards.
Experience with design software such as CDEGS, CYMCAP, COMSOL, AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

Lead technical delivery of HV cable system designs (AC/DC, overhead and underground).
Guide best‑practice design and manage risk across a diverse project portfolio.
Oversee full lifecycle of transmission cable systems and approve detailed designs.
Mentor junior engineers and lead rigorous technical reviews.
Support tendering with authoritative insight and cost optimization.
