Job summary

Arup is seeking a highly experienced Lead / Principal Cable Design Engineer in Glasgow to provide technical leadership for HVAC and HVDC transmission cable systems. You will guide design teams, ensure compliance with IEC/IEEE standards, and oversee end-to-end design delivery for major electricity transmission projects.

You will mentor junior engineers, drive innovation, and contribute to tendering and cost optimisation while embracing Arup's hybrid working model in the UK.

Qualifications

• Electrical Engineering degree required; Chartered Engineer status essential.
• Experience in HV/EHV cable design and large projects.
• Proven leadership of engineering teams and delivering complex work.
• Strong knowledge of IEC and IEEE standards.
• Proficient in design tools such as CDEGS, CYMCAP, COMSOL, AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and strategic delivery of transmission cable designs.
• Guide best practices, lead design teams and manage complex projects.
• Oversee full lifecycle of HVAC/HVDC cable systems and reviews.
• Support tendering with cost-optimisation insights and risk management.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technology initiatives.
