Job summary

Arup is seeking a Lead / Principal Cable Design Engineer to provide technical leadership and strategic delivery of HV cable systems for major transmission projects in the UK. The role covers design excellence, risk management, and mentoring within a collaborative, innovative environment.

You'll oversee AC/DC, overhead and underground cable designs, guiding teams to deliver compliant, high‑quality solutions while supporting tendering and technology advancement across the business.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering with Chartered Engineer status preferred.
• Experience in HV transmission cable design (HV/EHV).
• Proven track record leading engineering teams on large projects.
• Strong knowledge of IEC and IEEE standards.

Responsibilities

• Define and uphold best-in-class practices for HVAC/HVDC cable design across a diverse project portfolio.
• Lead design teams, drive innovation, manage risk, and ensure compliance with IEC/IEEE standards.
• Oversee the full lifecycle of HV transmission cable systems (AC/DC, overhead and underground).
• Support tendering with authoritative cost and technical insights.
• Mentor junior engineers and lead rigorous technical reviews.
