Senior HSE Advisor – On-Site Construction

Job summary

Referment is working with a leading specialist contractor to appoint a Health & Safety Advisor supporting major construction projects across the Oxford and Reading area. This is a fully site-based role for an experienced H&S professional who remains visible on projects, partnering with operational teams to maintain high standards on complex construction sites.

You will provide practical guidance, carry out inspections and audits, investigate incidents, and ensure health and safety requirements

Qualifications

• Minimum of five years' experience in a Health & Safety role within construction.
• Experience in civil engineering, reinforced concrete, infrastructure or structural construction desired.
• Recognised health and safety qualification, ideally NEBOSH Construction or equivalent.
• Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and construction industry requirements.
• Confident to challenge unsafe practices and influence teams at all levels.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Ability to work on site five days per week in the Oxford and Reading area.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day health and safety guidance to site and project teams.
• Carry out regular site inspections, audits and compliance reviews.
• Support the development and implementation of project-specific health and safety plans.
• Review risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work.
• Investigate incidents, near misses and unsafe practices, identifying corrective actions.
• Deliver briefings and support workforce engagement on health and safety matters.
• Monitor subcontractor compliance and promote high safety standards across the project.
• Produce clear reports and drive ongoing safety improvements.
