Job summary

Ipswich Borough Council is seeking a Principal Manager (Compliance) to lead within the Maintenance & Contracts service of the Housing directorate in Ipswich. The role focuses on continuous improvement, efficient services and raising housing standards for tenants, with responsibility across a £25 million budget and ~8,000 properties.

This on-site, permanent post requires senior leadership experience and a commitment to delivering safe, decent homes for the Ipswich Standard.

Qualifications

• Degree with five years' technical/organizational experience (e.g., BSc Construction Management).
• Up-to-date knowledge of Building Regulations and construction practice.
• Continued professional development and membership of a professional body (MCIOB/MRICS).
• Management qualification (e.g., DMS, MBA) or Chartered Manager (MCMI).
• Experience in quantity surveying, estimating, contracts management and budgeting.
• Proven leadership with ability to motivate teams and manage performance.
• Experience delivering local authority services at senior level.
• Ability to identify innovative solutions and manage risk.
• Strong IT skills and familiarity with professional bodies and policy.
• Experience with health and safety (CDM) and ISO standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead a senior management team within Maintenance & Contracts to drive continuous improvement.
• Ensure efficient services and improved housing standards for tenants.
• Collaborate with Housing directorate and external bodies to deliver strategic objectives.
• Oversee budgets, performance and asset management for housing stock.
