Job summary

Project Centre in Brighton is seeking an experienced Senior Highways Engineer to lead highway projects from concept through delivery. You will mentor junior engineers, apply DMRB standards and deliver Civil 3D designs within integrated multidisciplinary teams.

In this hands-on role, you will manage budgets and timescales, ensure QMS compliance, and contribute to proposals while maintaining a strong focus on quality and client outcomes. Hybrid work requires three days in the office weekly.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years' professional experience in highways or civil engineering.
• Degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
• Strong knowledge of highways engineering and DMRB standards.
• Competent user of Civil 3D.
• Experience in a professional engineering environment.
• Good commercial and business awareness.
• Experience managing tasks, priorities and deadlines.
• Working towards chartered status with IHE/ICE/CIHT is desirable or in progress.

Responsibilities

• Manage project tasks within budgets, timescales and quality standards.
• Develop highways and civil engineering schemes from concept to completion.
• Provide technical guidance to junior engineers.
• Check and approve outputs from junior team members.
• Oversee design elements including AutoCAD and Civil 3D deliverables.
• Assist in preparing estimates and proposals for new work.
• Coordinate delivery with multiple design teams or service areas.
• Own quality across projects and implement effective solutions.
• Maintain commercial awareness to ensure efficient delivery.
