Job summary

Waterman Group is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to lead highways and infrastructure design from feasibility through to construction, mentoring junior staff and coordinating with clients and authorities. Responsibilities include delivering schemes to UK standards (DMRB, Manual for Streets, LTN 1/20), checking designs, and supporting project delivery and quality assurance in a hybrid working environment.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
• Working toward Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status (IEng/CEng).
• Proven highways/infrastructure design experience in the UK.
• Knowledge of DMRB, Manual for Streets and LTN 1/20.
• Experience delivering schemes for local authority or development-led projects.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Deliver highways and infrastructure design across feasibility to construction.
• Produce and check designs to UK standards (DMRB, Manual for Streets, LTN 1/20).
• Lead or deputy on highways schemes including junctions and active travel.
• Mentor graduates and juniors; review work and provide guidance.
• Support quality assurance and design reviews; liaise with contractors and authorities.
