Job summary

Amey Consulting in Liverpool seeks an experienced Highways Engineer to support the Design and Development team. As a Civil Engineer, you will lead junior engineers and deliver highway projects from junction improvements to new roads and bridges.

You will work in a flexible, hybrid environment with 40-hour weeks and opportunities for development across the UK. The role emphasises client service, standards compliance, and timely delivery.

Qualifications

• Relevant experience in highway engineering, particularly local roads and S278 layouts.
• Commercial and customer-focused approach to achieve programme targets and income.
• Ability to supervise junior staff and check work for accuracy.
• Good understanding of Manual for Streets, DMRB and other national standards.
• Knowledge of CDM regulations and their relevance to highway design.
• Ability to prepare briefs for fee quotes for service delivery.
• Ability to deliver on time, within budget and to the required quality.
• Maintain awareness of industry best practice and apply it where appropriate.

Responsibilities

• Work in a team, producing sound engineering solutions compliant with standards and client requirements, supervising junior staff.
• The preparation and checking of designs, calculations, drawings and documentation within quality, cost and programme constraints.
• Liaise with client and supplier representatives, attend progress meetings and respond to queries.
• Manage a small, locally based single-discipline technical team and deliver workload.
• Contribute to bid preparation and the work-winning function.
• On-site work, visiting or full-time temporary role, including out-of-hours work.
