Job summary

Carrington West is seeking an experienced Works Manager to oversee highways and civil engineering projects on a freelance basis in North Somerset. You will manage day-to-day delivery, ensure work is progressing safely, on time and to specification.

The role requires hands-on leadership of site teams, direct labour and subcontractors, plus compliance with health and safety standards. A CSCS card, SMSTS and First Aid are essential; Streetworks experience would be advantageous.

Qualifications

• Proven experience delivering highways or civil engineering projects.
• Strong experience with drainage, earthworks, kerbing, surfacing and highway construction.
• Experience managing direct labour and subcontractor teams.
• Experience working within live traffic environments.
• Strong understanding of health, safety and quality requirements.
• Ability to plan and sequence works across multiple work fronts.
• Relevant CSCS qualification.
• SMSTS.
• First Aid.
• Streetworks experience would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the day-to-day delivery of highways and civil engineering works, ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently and to programme.
• Coordinate direct labour, subcontractors, plant and materials to meet project milestones.
• Ensure works meet quality, safety and programme requirements.
