Job summary

RGB Network in London is seeking a Senior Highway / Infrastructure Design Engineer to lead highway and infrastructure design from concept to construction. You will produce layouts, manage 278/38 submissions and contribute to active travel and drainage schemes.

The role offers hybrid working, strong project exposure, mentorship to junior engineers and opportunities to progress within an international consultancy with a focus on sustainable transport networks.

Qualifications

• Proven experience delivering highway and infrastructure design projects.
• Experience developing designs from concept through to detailed, construction-ready stages.
• Experience preparing Section 278 and Section 38 submissions.
• Exposure to active travel, urban highway design or road-space reallocation projects.
• Membership of ICE, CIHT or an equivalent professional body; Chartered status advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Deliver highway and infrastructure design projects from feasibility through to detailed design and construction.
• Produce highway layouts and vertical alignments using Civil 3D.
• Prepare Section 278 and Section 38 submissions for permanent and temporary schemes.
• Contribute to active travel schemes and road-space reallocation.
• Develop drainage designs, schedules, and profiles for networks, culverts, channels.
• Advise on standards, constraints, stakeholders and cost-effective solutions.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and clients for successful delivery.
• Support quality assurance, technical reviews and design standard compliance.
• Provide mentoring and guidance to junior engineers and designers.
• Work within BIM and Common Data Environment (CDE) systems.

The Opportunity

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Highway / Infrastructure Design Engineer to join a growing, multidisciplinary engineering consultancy in London. This role offers the chance to deliver a varied portfolio of highway and infrastructure projects, taking designs from concept through to detailed, construction-ready solutions.

You’ll work alongside transport planners, civil engineers and other specialists on complex projects, helping develop sustainable, safe and efficient transport networks. The Role

• Delivering highway and infrastructure design projects from feasibility and concept through to detailed design and construction.
• Producing highway layouts, vertical alignments and associated infrastructure designs using Civil 3D.
• Preparing Section 278 and Section 38 highway approval submissions for permanent and temporary schemes.
• Contributing to active travel schemes, sustainable transport projects and road‑space reallocation.
• Developing drainage designs, strategies, profiles and schedules for drainage networks, culverts, channels and associated infrastructure.
• Advising on design standards, environmental constraints, stakeholder requirements and cost‑effective engineering solutions.
• Coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, clients and external stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
• Supporting quality assurance, technical reviews and compliance with relevant UK design standards.
• Providing technical guidance, mentoring and support to junior engineers and designers.
• Working within BIM and Common Data Environment (CDE) systems.

About You

• Proven experience delivering highway and infrastructure design projects.
• Experience developing designs from concept through to detailed, construction‑ready stages.
• Strong working knowledge of Civil 3D, including 3D vertical highway design.
• Experience preparing Section 278 and Section 38 submissions.
• Exposure to active travel, urban highway design or road‑space reallocation projects.
• An understanding of local authority standards, UK design requirements and urban design constraints.
• Experience coordinating projects and working effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to engage with clients and stakeholders.
• Experience mentoring or supporting the development of junior engineers.
• Membership of ICE, CIHT or an equivalent professional body.
• Chartered Engineer status or working towards chartership would be advantageous.
