You will collaborate with engineers, planners and specialists to deliver safe, sustainable infrastructure solutions and mentor junior colleagues in a busy, multidisciplinary team.

• Membership of ICE, CIHT or equivalent; chartership would be beneficial.

A multidisciplinary engineering consultancy seeks a Senior Highway / Infrastructure Design Engineer for its Greater Manchester team, on a full-time contract with a salary of £40,000 to £60,000 per annum. The appointed engineer will own highway and infrastructure design packages across a varied portfolio, taking schemes from concept through to construction-ready detail. Collaboration with engineers, transport planners and other specialists is central to producing safe, sustainable and efficient solutions. Applicants should bring substantial experience in highway design, strong technical delivery skills and the confidence to coordinate across disciplines. The Role

As a Senior Highway / Infrastructure Design Engineer, you’ll be responsible for:

• Delivering highway and infrastructure design projects from concept and preliminary design through to detailed design and construction.
• Producing highway layouts, vertical alignments and 3D design models using Civil 3D.
• Preparing Section 278 and Section 38 submissions for permanent and temporary highway schemes.
• Contributing to active travel, sustainable transport and road-space reallocation projects.
• Developing drainage strategies and detailed drainage designs, including pipe networks, culverts, channels, manholes and associated infrastructure.
• Reviewing design constraints, standards, environmental considerations and stakeholder requirements.
• Coordinating design activities across multidisciplinary teams and managing project interfaces.
• Ensuring designs meet relevant UK standards, quality requirements and project objectives.
• Supporting technical reviews, quality assurance and continuous improvement.
• Mentoring junior engineers and providing technical guidance to other members of the design team.
• Working within BIM processes and Common Data Environments (CDEs).

About You

You’ll ideally have:

• Strong experience in highway and infrastructure design within a consultancy or relevant engineering environment.
• A track record of delivering designs from concept through to detailed, construction-ready stages.
• Proficiency in Civil 3D, particularly 3D vertical highway design.
• Experience preparing Section 278 and Section 38 highway approval submissions.
• Experience across active travel, highway improvement or urban infrastructure schemes.
• Knowledge of UK highway design standards and local authority requirements.
• Experience working within multidisciplinary project teams and coordinating technical deliverables.
• Strong communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
• The ability to provide technical support and mentoring to junior colleagues.
• Membership of ICE, CIHT or an equivalent professional institution.
• Chartership, or progress towards CEng status, would be beneficial.
